Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. REBECCA S. DUBOVSKAYA M.D., MCS December 31, 1901 January 8, 2007 With great sorrow and overwhelming feeling of loss the family has to announce the passing of our beloved Rebecca on January 8, 2007 at the age of 105 years. Remaining to forever cherish Rebecca's memory her daughter; Sophie, grandson Victor (Myra) and her greatgranddaughter Julia Shulman. Rebecca was predeceased by her husband of 45 years of marriage, Dr. Efim Levin and by her soninlaw Dr. Boris Shulman as well by her parents; Bella and Simcha Dubovsky, who were murdered in Pinsk by the Nazis in 1942. Born in Pinsk (Belarus), the oldest of five siblings, she had always been to them like a second mother. Their dad was a founder of a Jewish school and Rebecca herself yet a teen would help him as a teacher's assistant. After graduating from her high school with distinction, she wanted to attend to the sick and the suffering. The closest Medical School was in Warsaw, Poland, but they would not admit a Jewish person. So, an 18yearold Rebecca went to the far away Moscow... Two years after the war and the revolution, the country was in ruins: no regular trains, shortage of food, random shooting... Rebecca, with her backpack, walked most of more than two thousand kilometres that lay between Pinsk and Moscow, on foot. Not only had she managed to survive in an unknown, unheated and starved Moscow, but later graduated from the State Medical School (with distinction) and had worked as an MD since then for 48 years. It was, indeed, her call as she had always been exceptionally compassionate, caring, kind as well as profoundly knowledgeable, thoughtful doctor. Many times she had been told that she was a doctor by God's grace . She had been granted a rare title of Distinguished Physician . During the war, Rebecca served as a Major of Medical Services in a hospital for wounded soldiers. For decades she had done medical research as well; she and her husband, both had a Ph.D in medicine. In 1980 she immigrated to Canada with her daughter's family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rebecca's memory to the charity of one's choice. We love you so, Mom Your loving family. Rebecca's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 4665
